FCA National Scramble Championship:  A Hole in One for FCA

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL—The 14th annual FCA National Scramble Championship hosted nearly 350 players from all across the U.S. in November, 2007. This national championship golf tournament served as the culmination of 127 local and regional qualifying events. Teams from Georgia, Illinois, and Virginia placed first in each of the three divisions.

Similar to the former Buick Scramble, the three-day amateur event allows teams the chance to compete on one of the greatest courses in the country – THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, home of THE PLAYERS Championship.

The final round marked a historical event in FCA National Scramble Championship history. A sudden-death playoff ensued between two teams in the Open Net Division tied for first with a total net score of 174 (-40).

Beginning on the par 3 17th “island” hole of THE PLAYERS Stadium Course, all four from the Alabama team disappointingly sank their tee shots into the water. After the first three of the Virginia team’s tee shots landed in the water, the fourth tee shot breathlessly rolled to the back fringe just inches away from the wood on top of the piling surrounding the green. Virginia succeeded in securing their victory with a par, and the two teams embraced on the green to offer thanks to God.

In addition to the thrilling competition, another highlight of the tournament was banquet speaker Dr. David Cook – sports psychologist, motivator, and golf expert. He delivered an outstanding and inspirational message with principles that players could apply to their lives for real results. Each player also received a copy of his book, Golf’s Sacred Journey, which provides many great insights and a different perspective on the game of golf, then finishes with truth about life.

" . . . (Golf's Sacred Journey) is without a doubt the best golf book I have ever read."

— Jim Esary, Executive Director, FCA Golf

You never really know when you might meet someone who will change your life. More importantly, you never know when your influence might change another's life. Golf's Sacred Journey is about influence. It is about a man who lived in a simple place but had extraordinary insight. He also had something else on his side . . . He had time to invest himself in the life of another who was lost on his journey.

This novel is based on the thousands of athletes and performers Dr. Cook has counseled and the great mentors and teachers from whom he has learned. He has compressed his 20+ years of peak performance coaching into a story of two fictional characters: a rancher with a passion for teaching truth and a young golf professional at the end of his rope. Come join these two for Seven Days at the Links of Utopia! It's a place full of wisdom for golf and life.
